About Prof. Dr. Vikram Sundaresan

Prof. Dr. Vikram Sundaresan is the Founding Professor of Network Security at ICS AI University and a permanent member of the academic faculty of the School of Cyber Security, reporting to the Dean of the School. He holds canonical academic ownership of the University's networking and network security curriculum and is the named academic authority for every Level 3 Network Security module delivered by the University.

Born in Chennai and educated in India, Singapore and the United States, Prof. Sundaresan holds dual Indian and Singaporean nationality and teaches in English, Tamil and Malay. He earned a Bachelor of Technology in Electronics & Communication Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, a Master of Science in Computer Networks from the National University of Singapore, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Network Security from Carnegie Mellon University, where his doctoral work addressed anomaly detection in high-throughput enterprise backbones.

He spent fourteen years in industry before returning to academia — as a network engineer for a regional carrier, then principal architect for a pan-Asian internet exchange, and finally as Global Head of Network Defence for a multinational financial services group, where he owned perimeter architecture, segmentation strategy, intrusion detection and the organisation's first zero trust programme.

Across eighteen years of university teaching he has taught networking and network defence to more than fourteen thousand learners, designed five accredited networking curricula, and supervised eleven doctoral candidates. He is known for teaching packets before products: no control is introduced until the learner can trace the traffic it protects.

His research programme spans zero trust architecture, encrypted-traffic analytics, secure network design at scale, wireless and edge security, and laboratory-based networking pedagogy. He has authored seventy-four peer-reviewed publications, one widely adopted textbook on secure network design, and maintains an open reference laboratory topology used by universities in nine countries.

Prof. Sundaresan serves on international standards and accreditation panels for network security education and advises national programmes on critical-infrastructure network resilience. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, a member of ACM and ISACA, holds CCIE Security and CISSP, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
